Writing Performance Appraisals for Public WorksOne of the most important jobs supervisors have is to make sure their employees work effectively and achieve desired results. Clear, ongoing communication is crucial to the success of both the employee and the supervisor - and this includes writing performance appraisals. Yet, conducting annual performance appraisals is a task many managers are not comfortable with. This training course provides information and tips that will make the process easier, more comfortable and more effective in producing real employee performance improvement.

Participants will learn the following:
- How to discuss behaviors, not personalities.
- How to give constructive and motivational feedback.
- How to know what information to include in the appraisal and what information to leave out of the appraisal document.
- How the department’s strategic plan fits into our performance cycle and performance appraisal reports.

All Public Works supervisors and managers.

About the presenter: Siobhan Kelly is the manager of the University of Public Works and has been with the City for 14 years. She has worked in Organizational Development and Human Resources for 20 years. Prior to coming to work for the City, she was a supervisor and manager in the private sector.
